Global Cup Continues International Expansion

St. George, Utah, USA – The Global Cup – World Senior Volleyball Championships for more than a decade has been a staple at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, USA. The best players in the world, age 50+, have gathered for competition and camaraderie in what has become a fiercely competed world-class event. Teams participate by invitation, with one team per country competing.

“It’s a truly unique experience. Because there is only one team per nation, these players are representing their country on the court in a way that is really only available during the Olympics,” said Kyle M Case, Huntsman World Senior Games CEO.

Last year, in 2015, history was made when the first Global Cup was held outside of the United States is Loutraki City, Greece, for men’s teams age 45+.

“It was a big move for us last year, holding an event like this in a new location,” said Case. “The city of Loutraki and Sports Camp along with the local organizing committee did a fantastic job. The competition was excellent, the optional excursions were memorable and the over all execution was right on.”

This year, in 2016, the Global Cup will expand to include one more location and even more age groups. Sao Paulo, Brazil, will host men’s 40+ and women’s 55+ teams and Loutraki City, Greece, will host men’s 60+ and women’s 45+ teams. The original location, St. George, Utah will host men’s 50+ teams.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this expansion and feel that these host cities and countries will continue to carry on the great tradition of the Global Cup. Our goal is that teams and players will see this circuit of tournaments as an opportunity to play at the highest possible level, regardless of age. It’s a pretty wonderful thing,” said Case.
